Description
Teachers can use this image in their classroom to lead a discussion about different ways to think about fractions. Simply ask, “Which images represent one-third?”
The representations include area models, strip models, arrays, word problems, and number lines (both the distance from zero and the distance between two numbers). Find out where your students’ knowledge is in a group discussion, then add a math journal prompt, “Which representation is the easiest to understand? Which is the most difficult?”
