The Mysterious I. D. Vide in Newton’s Nemesis is a great classroom resource that can generate mathematical thinking from 4th to 7th grades.  Aligned with the current curriculum and written by a professor of mathematics education, teachers use the series to talk about the different meanings of fractions, multiplication, and division. Extension activities include exploring the life of Benjamin Banneker and decoding the coordinate plane.

In the first comic book in the series, even though Theo struggles with fraction division, he can explain what a fraction is to his little sister who is learning whole number division.  Teachers can use the comic book to introduce several meanings of fractions and introduce fraction multiplication and division using free Entrance Tickets and Exit Tickets downloadable from the Math Comic Hero website.
